From Matt:
This morning I made him some oatmeal and he seemed really interested earlier, but while I was waiting for it to cool down I put Sesame Street on. He got all into this space ship scene where Oscar's worm couldn't be launched into space by WASA because the number 0 was tired of being a nothing and stopped being a number (opting to be a pig instead). They went to do a count down, but without the number 0 the couldn't finish it.
This scene was so enthralling to our dear child that when I tried to feed him the oatmeal I had lovingly prepared, he looked at it and then said, with perfect clarity, 'no.'

Beach Trip May 16-18
Today we packed up and headed for Portland after a dinner with grandma KP over at the Rood's house.
Matt stopped once to watch a train go by and it was very loud as it blew it's horn at the intersecting road. Levi jumped but seemed enthralled by it and would listen and point and say "woooo-woooo" when he would think there was a train nearby ever after that.
We arrived at Wes and Joanie's house about 11 pm. My dad (grandpa Jeff) was already in bed, asleep, after his flight over from Maryland that day. Wes met us at the door and helped carry stuff in and we went to bed ourselves. Levi didn't sleep great, he woke up in the middle of the night and had a stinky diaper, so I helped him out with that and he went back to sleep pretty quickly. He then woke up for the day at about 6 AM so I took him in the bathroom for a bath. The drive over was pretty hot with no A/C. He usually loves bath-time but cried when I gave him a quick one this morning. :( After that I got him dressed and he played with grandpa Jeff and Wes while I got a shower.
Joanie made a wonderful breakfast of biscuits and gravy and cantaloupe. Levi gave us a scare when he put too much melon in his mouth and choked on it. But otherwise the morning was uneventful and we had a nice visit at the table. After everyone checked their e-mail and packed the cars we drove to the Oregon coast.
First we made a stop at Cannon Beach, where we had lunch at a place called Pizza al feta. Our waiter Bob, took our photo and gave us a yearbook to sign for the restaurant. He also told us this pizza place was in the Top 50 places to eat, ranking at #37. We got a large pizza to share with half chicken and half veggie. The veggie half had artichoke hearts and sun-dried tomatoes and was very good. We then walked around the town a little bit, taking in the sights. We walked to the beach and let Levi run in the water a little while. After that we had ice cream at the Osborn's Ice Creamery.
We then got back on the road and drove to our beach house for the weekend, getting turned around a few times when trying to find it. The place was a nice two-story house with three bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, and laundry on the main floor. Upstairs was the kitchen, dining area, living room and another bathroom with a tub. The stairs were a little steep but they did provide a baby gate to keep the kids away from danger, which was much appreciated.
We were really close to the beach, just a short walk from the house. Levi heard the ocean and would say "woooo-woooo" thinking it was the sound of a train. When we went out the first time the sand away from the water was pretty hot, so I carried Levi over it. Once we put him down on the beach he wanted to run everywhere. He had such a great time. I took him in the water once (wading) but it was really cold and the power of the tide seemed to scare him so that was all the time in the water he had all weekend. I dug out a hole for him in the sand and hit water only about 4" down so that made a nice little puddle for him to play in. We had purchased a bucket and shovel, rake and sand molds for him in Cannon Beach so he played in his puddle and just had a blast.
For dinner we made haystacks and they were awesome. We watched a movie called Flywheel before going to bed pretty late.

The Count
I was feeding Levi some applesauce this morning and we were watching Elmo's world. The Count come on talking about how what he does when he jumps is counts. As soon as Levi saw him he pointed and went 'ah ah ah ah!' I didn't realize he knew the Count so well. -Matt

Learning to share
Levi and Indi were playing on the bench, and I handed Levi two pieces of sliced cheese. I let him have one, and I told him to give the other to Indi. He ate his and then, after thinking about eating the second, he tried to hand it to her. She didn't see it, so he kept trying to get her to see it. Finally he gave up and handed it back to me. I got her attention and then gave it back to Levi, and he walked over to her and very carefully put it in her mouth. Then, he kept getting pieces of cheese and very gingerly fed them to her one by one. It was really cute. He's such a great kid!
