Little Mountain Climber

Levi's latest accomplisment - climbing completely up on his little farm bench. He will climb up and then either sit and swing his legs with a big grin, or he will stand and look out the window.

One year checkup

Today was Levi's one year checkup with doctor Tom Bolduc. He was first weighed and measured and is 20 lbs 4 oz, 29 1/2 inches long, which puts him in the 25th percentile for both. His head circumference is 18 1/2" which I believe was in the 50th percentile. Doctor Tom listened to his heart and determined that his heart murmur is still there. He gave him a thorough check and we will need to make an additional appointment with a urologist as we believe he has a skin bridge where one shouldn't be. Developmentally he is where he should be. After our talk with doctor Tom, the nurse Camille came in and gave Levi four shots. He did not like that one bit! But he was very brave and stopped crying as soon as I picked him up. Our next appointment will be at 18 months (January).

Last night I noticed Levi really copying me when I would say things. For example, I was on the phone and said "bye" and then Levi had to say his version of it a few times. It was really cute. Doctor Tom had stated that the next big explosion would be Levi's verbal skills.

Tomorrow Levi gets to see the dentist.

July 23 2007

I feel badly that I haven't posted much since Levi's 1st birthday. We have just been trying to recover. I started writing out some thank you cards and then Matt decided it would be fun to send a photo along with each of Levi playing with the gifted item. So now we are tying to do that also.

We got a backpack for Levi from my dad and it came in a really big rectangular box, so we opened it up and had it on the floor and Levi was very curious about it, so I opened up the other end to make a Levi-sized tunnel and he got pretty excited about that, crawled right in and through and turned around and did it all over again and again. We got to use the backpack this weekend, the Fairgrounds had two events going on that we went down to check out, a paint horse show and a sweet onion festival.

Levi's latest trick is to open up the drawers in the bathroom sink cabinet and empty the contents into the bathtub. The other day he did it as the tub was filling up. Levi, Noooooo! Thankfully most of it was waterproof.

He got a sippy cup for his birthday and low and behold he seems to have taken a hankering to it. Matt put some juice in it for him the other day and he had a fun time drinking it down.

He is standing a lot but still not without holding onto something. We think he is teething again, this time perhaps some molars, but he is still his usual cheery little self. A fine example he sets for all of us.

His 1 yr appointment with the doctor is tommorow at 9:30 am so will have more to report soon.

Backpack

Today our pack came in the mail, dad had gotten this for us for Levi's birthday. I am glad to have one, I am sure it will come in handy for the Fair and other events that we want to walk around at.

July 15 2007

Sunday morning we went out to breakfast about 9 am to Elmers with Dad/Genia, Wes/Joanie, Susan/Richard and Amber. Levi had some cantalope, he sure seems to like that stuff.

After breakfast I went with dad out to the barn. We rode Sinwaan for about an hour in the arena and had a nice time. When we were through dad had a nice conversation with Dale about fly fishing. I didn't know my dad wanted to do that.

From there we went to the Milton-Freewater pool and called Matt to let him know we were on our way there. He was just finishing up his time with his mom so they agreed to drop Matt and Levi off on their way out of town. The M-F pool is really something, they have two slides and some basketball hoops in the deep end. Then there is all kinds of fun stuff in the shallow end, and there is a ramp at that end so you can go from 1 inch to 2 feet of water gradually. Levi wasn't sure about it at first (the water WAS pretty cold) but soon he was crawling all around in the water and having a great time.

About 3:30 pm we headed back home and had another BBQ to finish up what was left of our party foods. Wes and Joanie and Patrick were there as well as Dad/Genia. Wes and Joanie headed out of town back to Portland when they were done. We sat around and socialized while Levi slept, I think the pool really tired him out. Later we went to Wal-Mart and Dad got us two flats of water bottles and some Dove ice cream bars, they were really good, mint dark chocolate. After that Dad/Genia left and I gave Levi a bath and then we all went to bed at 9 pm.

July 14 2007

We arose today about 7 AM and I dashed out to the truck to see what Levi's suit looked like. I was amazed at how much there was to it...slacks, shirt, vest, jacket and even a little noose tie. Wes had also picked out some white shoes and when I got Levi dressed in it for the first time I was overcome with how adorable and handsome he looked. We took a few photos but Levi wasn't too keen on that so we undressed him down to a onesie while we ate breakfast and got ourselves ready for church.

Dad/Genia followed us to Eastgate Church and went with us to Cradle Roll. This quarters theme is the ocean so there were a lot of trips to the "ocean" (pond) to thow in our sea sponges, jellyfish, fish and boats. There was also a sandbox for the kids to play in and shells for them to find. At the end Levi got to sit in the birthday chair and everyone sang to him and he put his penny in the rabbit bank and I helped him blow out his candle. He got some bubbles as a gift.

During church there was really a lot of friends and family that came to witness his dedication, which took place after the children's story. Pastor Cary had us stand up front and he had a really nice talk/ceremony/prayer, after which we signed a certificate. Generally Levi will sleep through part of church but today he did not.

Afterwards we had a potluck with everyone at the community center building in College Place and there was so much good food. I had made my Orzo with zuchinni and more mint lemonade. There was also two burger casseroles, enchiladas, a bean dip/chips, turkey salad crossiants, relish plate, etc. My grandmother had come from Montana and made a rhubarb pie that was really good. We finally got Levi's birthday cake eaten today as well. Kim and Allison were over from Virginia. It was a little amusing that Matt's family sat at one table while my family sat at the other table, and Levi was snatched up by whomever was brave enough to take him away. Wes and Joanie got Levi a stackable set for his birthday so after lunch he spent a lot of time playing with that and proving how smart he is by placing the ball up on the very top. He also climbed clear up on the hearth and was able to back himself off of it when he was ready. We all had a wonderful time visiting and socializing and playing with Levi until about 4 pm.

Grandmother and Kim and Allison and mother came over to our house afterwards to rest. We spent some time looking at photos from the birthday party, and from Sears. Then we decided to go out to the barn so Kim could see Sinwaan and where he lives. Allison was tired so she stayed back at the house. We drove out to the barn and I brought in Sinwaan, Kim took some photos and then she started scratching him and found the right spot and ooohhhh you could just see him relax and lean into it and then his bottom lip started flapping and he was just loving it. We brought Ollokot in too, and a lady stopped by to look at him. When we were done at the barn I drove them up the 3 mi gravel road where I usually do my riding so they could see that as well.

Mom dropped me off at home and picked up Allison and we all said our goodbyes as Ma was taking the women back to her home in Richland. It was so nice to see them and I am glad they could make it over for Levi's special day.

Susan/Richard and Amber were at the house when I returned so we got together with them and Dad/Genia and Wes/Joanie and had pizza for dinner and looked at more photos and then about 10:30 pm we finally got around to playing Rummy. Joanie had never played before but sure caught on fast and won the last round. It was a late night.

July 13 2007

Friday the 13th and yet there is nothing bad about it. I worked today and then my dad got to town about 5 pm. We had a nice relaxing BBQ dinner with Dad/Genia, Susan/Richard and Amber and Jerry/Gail.

I fed Levi some watermelon with a plastic fork and then he grabbed it and managed to stab a piece himself and got it in his mouth in one fail swoop. Awesome! The kid feeds himself with utensils!

Dad and Levi had some fun interacting and I got some really cute photos of that.

Wes called and reported he was leaving town late, he would place Levi's suit for tomorrow's dedication in the truck once he got to town so it would be there for me in the morning.

Happy 1st Birthday!

Today is Levi's first birthday! I can't belive how fast the time has flown by! He woke up about 6:30 am and I fed him and he played with his toys. About 9 am we went over to see Susan and Richard and Amber. We decided to go back to our house to eat quickly before his 10 am photo appointment with Sears. Levi was tired so he had a quick nap before we had to wake him up. Matt fed him a banana and we got him changed and went to Sears. We had a really good time at the portrait studio, they got some nice photos of him and we were there about 1 hr 15 min total. We came back home and Levi took another short nap while I worked on making pasta salad, mint lemonade, cake, then later potato salad. Susan and Richard were such a big help with the fruit salad, it turned out beautifully. Matt carved out a watermelon basket to serve it in. It was too cool. Gma KP showed up at 4 pm and helped me finish the potato salad and watch Levi while we got some other things done and ready for the party. Tina stopped by to drop off a gift as she was scheuled to work tonight. People started coming about 5 pm. We had Venetha, Jerry and Gail, Virginia and Ralph, Susan, Richard and Amber, The Rood family, Shara with Mariah and Spencer, Tiffany and JD with their twins Thomas and Taylor, Lara, it was a full house. The weather was supposed to be 104 today but with the cloud cover earlier that morning it only reached high 90s. It was still quite warm but I think everyone made it ok. We had chairs out back in the shade and on the patio, and seating available indoors also. We served linketts, big franks, grillers and spicy chicken burgers on the grill as well as corn. It was a feast! We had the cold foods indoors (salads) and Gail brought a relish plate with pickled okra just for me which was very good also. Gma KP had to leave about 6:15 so we sang to Levi with his cake about 6 pm. First he pulled the candle off the cake and tried to eat it, I had to fish the wax out of his mouth. Then he had fun smearing the icing on his cupcake and eating it, he didn't eat much of the cupcake itself however. There were so many cameras aimed at him he must have felt famous today. :) We had fun with that and then went back to eating. Matt filled up his inflatable pool so Levi and the twins had fun playing in that for a little while. Later we sat outside and opened gifts, Levi received so many nice and useful things from toys to clothing. He especially liked a little pull-back train engine from Virginia. He had a very big day and by now was very tired so I just held him and sat around and talked to everyone and eventually he fell asleep on my chest. He was very hot most of the afternoon, feverish, and we guess he is teething again, he did have some drool again lately and Matt thinks he can see more top teeth pushing through. It was a great day to be sure! We could not have done it without all the extra helping hands. Photos will be posted shortly.

July 07 2007

Hard to believe that only 5 more days until Levi's first birthday! Today Matt brought him out to the barn just as I was finishing up a ride. So we set him up on Sinwaan and he looked like a natural. I can't wait until he can really start riding, Kittee said once he is old enough we can put him on one of the ponies with a little saddle. He'll need a helmet then also.

Let's see, what is new with Levi since I posted last? He is cruising around a lot more, walking but hanging onto things. He is eating all kinds of things off our plates and sometimes it leads to more dirty diapers than we'd like but he seems delighted to be trying new foods.

He is trying very hard to talk - Da, Ma, Ga, Ba, Up, Uh, Aye, etc and putting more work into the pronunciation. Bath time is a favorite activity. He also loves to see if things "fit", putting his toys in the dog dishes or each other. He is so much fun.
